Structure of Development and Evaluation Databases

BSEC2009 is based on the use of the two signatures subsets from the complete BioSecure Databases provided through the Association BioSecure: Data Set 3 (DS3), acquired on a Personal Digital Assistant (PDA), HP iPAQ hx2790, and Data Set 2 (DS2), acquired on a digitizing tablet WACOM INTUOS 3 A6. Such subsets contain the signatures of the same 382 persons and are called in the following DS2-382 and DS3-382.

DS2-382 and DS3-382 will be used as Test Subsets and will be kept sequestered.

Two Development Subsets of respectively DS2 and DS3, containing data from another 50 persons, will be distributed to participants. Those Development Subsets will be denoted as DS2-50 and DS3-50 in the following.

Acquistion Protocols of BioSecure Signature Sets DS2 and DS3

BioSecure Signature Set DS3

Signature data in DS3 were acquired at the frequency of 100Hz and a touch screen resolution of 1280*960 pixels. Three time functions are captured from the PDA: x and y coordinates and the time elapsed between the acquisition of two successive points. The acquisition protocol was the following:

  • In order to put the user in mobility conditions, he/she signed while standing, and had to keep the PDA in his/her hand.
  • In order to have high quality forgeries, forging both the dynamics and the shape of the signature, a specific interface was designed on the PDA: the forger could display on the PDA screen the writing sequence (the dynamics) of the signature to forge. Then, the forger could sign on the image of such signature that remained on the PDA screen, this way following at best the shape of the signature to forge.
  • Two sessions were acquired spaced of around 5 weeks, each containing 15 genuine signatures. The donor was asked to perform, alternatively, three times five genuine signatures and twice five skilled forgeries (of the signatures of two other persons).

IMPORTANT: As data acquired on the PDA is actually not sampled at regular time intervals, a preprocessing step is necessary; in order to evaluate all participants in equal conditions, independently of the preprocessing technique used, the organizer will perform time interpolation on DS3 Development (DS3-50) and Test data (DS3-382).

BioSecure Signature Set DS2

Signature data in DS2 were acquired at the frequency of 100Hz and the pen tablet resolution is 5080 lines per inch and the precision is 0.25mm. The maximum detection height is 13mm and the capture area is 270mm (width) x 216mm (height). The digitizer captures the pen coordinates, pen pressure (1024 pressure levels) and pen inclination angles (azimuth and altitude angles around +/- 60°). The acquisition protocol was the following:

  • The user signed while sitting, on paper (on top of the digitizer), displaying each signature on a restricted predefined area on the paper, with an inking pen.
  • For skilled forgeries, the forger could train himself/herself to reproduce the image of the signature to forge.
  • Two sessions were acquired spaced of around 2 weeks, each containing 15 genuine signatures. The donor was asked to perform, alternatively, three times five genuine signatures and twice five skilled forgeries (of the signatures of two other persons).
